Department of Italian Linguistics and Literature engages in a wide range of researches: linguistics, literature, culture, translation studies. Researchers of the department participate in main research fields of Institute of English, Romance and Classical Studies as studies of languages of Germanic, Romance and Baltic and Literary and cultural texts of Germanic and Romance languages.
The main object of the department is to implement synchronic and diachronic researches of Italian and other languages (grammatical, phonetic, lexical, semantic, and pragmatic aspects of language and its variations). In addition, the department pursue to study the development of Italian literature and culture in the context of Western European literature and culture.
The Department of Italian Linguistics and Literature aspires to be regarded as a main academic research centre for Italian language and culture in Lithuania and Northern Europe by bolstering connections with Italian universities, supporting young researchers, study exchanges and visits among doctoral students.
